Tõnu Kõrvits was born on April 9, 1969 in Tallinn.
He graduated from Alo Põldmäe's composition class in Tallinn Music
Secondary School. In 1994 Tõnu Kõrvits graduated from Estonian Music
Academy as a student of Raimo Kangro and is presently continueing
his studies for Master degree with Jaan Rääts.
While still a student at the Music Academy, many of his orchestral pieces
were performed at one of the most important events for Estonian music-annual
Estonian
Music Festival in 1993 "To a man, in Whose Eyes the Brightness of
Polaris Sparkled", in 1994 his Symphony and in 1995 "Adagio for Strings".
All of them were warmly received in the Estonian music press.
Last year he was chosen to present Estonia at the EBU's
"Internationale Rostrum of Composers" held in Paris.
In 1995/96 concert season the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra
performed one of his latest orchestral works "The Blue Gate".
Many of his pieces for guitar have been released in "Antes Edition"
in Germany.
The music of Tõnu Kõrvits has been characterized by
extraordinary bright animation. Good dramaturgic cognition and fine-coloured
orchestration has been pointed out as one of his strong sides.
