 Jaan Rääts (born 1932) is one of Estonia's most often played composers. He is a professor at the Estonian Music Academy. Typical of his work is a seemingly neo­classical poly­stylism linked with contemporary compositional techniques. His works for piano (24 marginalia for 2 pianos, Sonata for 2 pianos, 24 Estonian preludes amongst others), music for chamber ensembles, several symphonies and concerts for various instruments and orchestra are among the most important and internationally recognized pieces. The chamber concert op. 16 (1961) by Jaan Rääts has been performed in over 25 countries (Germany, Russia, Israel, and by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in the U.S.A., etc.)

Jaan Rääts (geb. 1932) gehört zu den meistaufgeführten Komponisten Estlands. Er ist Professor an der Estnischen Musikakademie. Kennzeichnend für sein Schaffen ist eine neoklassizistisch anmutende Polystilikstik, die sich mit modernen Ausdrucksformen verbindet. Zu den bedeutendsten und international bekanntesten Schöpfungen gehören seine Werke für Klavier (u.a. 24 Marginalien für 2 Klaviere, Sonate für 2 Klaviere, 24 Estnische Präludien), Musik für Kammerensembles, mehrere Symphonien und Konzerte für verschiedene Instrumente und Orchester. Sein Kammerkonzert op. 16 (1961) ist in über 25 Ländern aufgeführt worden (u.a. in Deutschland, Russland, Israel und in den USA mit den New Yorker Philharmonikern).

Jaan Rääts (né en 1932) est l'un des compositeurs estoniens les plus joués. Il enseigne en outre à l'Académie de Musique d'Estonie. Son œuvre se caractérise par un polystylisme d'allure néo­classique, associé à des formes d'expression modernes. Parmi ses compositions les plus importantes et les plus connues sur la scène internationale figurent ses œuvres pour piano dont 24 Marginalia pour deux pianos, une Sonate pour deux pianos, 24 Préludes estoniens, de la musique pour ensemble de chambre, plusieurs symphonies et des concertos pour divers instruments et orchestre. Son Concerto de chambre op.16 (1961) a été joué dans 24 pays (dont l'Allemagne, la Russie, Israël et les Etats­Unis avec l'Orchestre philharmonique de New York.)
